We went in spring, and we had a filling meal in nice surroundings. It looks like the stews are their specialty. As with most Korean places, the menu is heavy towards the beef, fish, chicken, and seafood selections. Two pancake variations are green onion and oyster pancake, with the other being a seafood pancake. An out-of-the-ordinary selection is Yum So Jun Gorl, which is goat meat in spicy soup. For vegetarians, the selections are: Appetizer - Duk Bok Ki is sauteed rice cake with vegetables and green onion. Soup - Duk Gook is sliced rice cake soup. Main Dish - Doo Boo Kim Chi is sauteed tofu, kim chi, and vegetables in spicy sauce. Stew - Dwen Jang Ji Gae is soybean paste stew. Kim Chi Soon Doo Boo is kim chi and vegetable in hot sizzling clay pot. Noodles Jol Myun is very chewy noodles with vegetables in spicy sauce. Woo Dong is Japanese style noodle soup. Karl Gook Soo is vegetables noodle soup. Bee Beem Gook Soo is rice noodle in spicy sauce. So Bar Naeng Myun is buckwheat noodles with cucumber in cold beef broth (not vegetarian, but...). Oh Yee Naeng Gook Soo is rice noodles and cucumber in cold soup. Kong Gook Soo is flour noodle in cold soy bean soup. Fried Rice Kim Chi Bok Um Bob is kim chi fried rice. The surroundings are nice, and they had three or four large tables that Kabuki could fill, plus the ability to rearrange smaller tables into a line if they're not too busy. Bill and I were the only round eyes in the place, and they seemed rather surprised that we came. Service was excellent for two people. Portable heating units were brought to the table - mostly to keep soups/stews warm rather than grilling meats. Prices were very reasonable. Price ranges are: Appetizers $6 - $11 Dinners $10 - $30 (expensive soups like goat meat) Rice dishes $8 - $10 Soups $7 - $9 Stews $8 - $14 Noodle dishes $6 - $8 Fried Rice $6 - $7 I would suggest this place for a cold-weather Kabuki outing if people wanted to try it, though I don't know how they would respond to a large group. -- review and directions by Carole Directions: For those that know the area, JinMi is located at the shopping center at Homestead and Hollenbeck that has the Longs and Safeway in it. For those that don't know the area: From 280 From southbound, turn left at the end of the offramp and go back over the freeway. From northbound, turn right at the end of the offramp. At the next signal, turn left onto Homestead Road. From 101 From either direction, take the Mathilda Avenue southbound exit. Head away from the bay towards El Camino Real. You've got a long drive ahead to Homestead Road. Turn right on Homestead Road. From 85 From southbound, you can take the Homestead exit. Turn left at the end of the offramp. Three or four lights later, turn left onto Hollenbeck Avenue. From northbound, take the Fremont exit. It's a bit of an overshoot, but you can't get off at Homestead because of the 280 interchange. Take Fremont to Hollenbeck. Turn right on Hollenbeck. The shopping center is on your RHS. Common to All (with a slight modification for some 85 travelers.) At the second light down, turn right onto Hollenbeck Avenue. The shopping center is on your LHS. Go to the driveway nearest the Safeway. Turn left into the driveway. Go past the Safeway. Jin Mei is on the LHS building at the small end of the building. It is a hole in the wall. Mass transit Yes, a bus goes by on its way to De Anza College/Moffett Field, but I'm not sure of the bus number. They are not near any other mass transit.
