RSVPs might be useful here This Event: Wed 9/22 Su Hong Chinese, Menlo Park Coming Events: Wed 9/22 Su Hong Chinese, Menlo Park Wed 9/29 Fatima Chinese, San Jose/Cupertino Web page for KW schedules, restaurant reviews, etc: http://www.kabuki-west.org/ Time: 7:45pm Place: Su Hong Mandarin-Szechwan 1039 El Camino Real Menlo Park +1-650-323-6852 www.suhong.com Su Hong is another Mandarin-Szechwan restaurant that's been in Menlo Park for decades. They don't use MSG, and spicing is "standard Chinese" but they'll adjust. The menu looks like many of the Mandarin places - familiar apps, meat and seafood dishes, noodles and vegies, a few unique dishes, about half marked spicy or garlicky. They've got dan-dan noodles (unlike Jing-Jing's, they're warm with meat.) The eggplant with spicy garlic sauce was just perfect. Kabuki-West first went to Su Hong in September 2004. And it's across the street from Keplers and Cafe Barrone, so there's an obvious dessert venue for afterwards. There's a Su Hong To Go around the corner on Menlo Ave (related) and another Su Hong in Palo Alto (which they opened in the 1980s), but we're eating at the one on El Camino. The restaurant is named after Suzhou and Hongzhou, where the owners' families are from, both near Shanghai. Directions: 1039 El Camino Real, half block south of Santa Cruz Ave. 101 to Willow (Menlo Park direction), right on Middlefield, left on Ravenswood, cross or turn right at El Camino Real and look for parking. Or take Central Expressway north until it becomes Alma and then merges into El Camino Real, and it's a bit north of there. Caltrain Station is behind Kepler's Books - from Southbound side, walk away from train to El Camino and it's about half a block. Mailing list issues - kabuki-west-request on the midgard.net machines
